Human Crafted Foundation Foundation

A question born in cinema.
A purpose beyond it.

Human Crafted emerged during the development of YESHUA — Dreyer’s Jesus, an animated feature based on Carl Theodor Dreyer’s unrealised screenplay.

01

65,000 drawings and paintings

The planned creation of approximately 65,000 artworks, without generative AI in the visual creation, placed artistic knowledge and human labour at the centre of the film’s production.

That commitment raised a wider question: how could the knowledge, time and decisions within a work remain recognisable beyond the production itself?

02

Beyond the originating film

YESHUA offers a concrete starting point. The Foundation’s intended scope extends to visual arts, writing, music, performance, design, architecture, craft and other creative disciplines.

A credible framework must be useful to people whose practices, tools and working conditions differ substantially from those of an animated feature.

03

A foundation in formation

Human Crafted Foundation is an international cultural initiative being established. Its organisational structure, governance and recognition framework remain under development.

Confirmed appointments, partnerships and adopted criteria will be published as they are established. Relationships associated with YESHUA do not constitute endorsements of the Foundation.

04

The work ahead

The proposed programme begins with defining human creative contribution and considering how it can be documented.

Further areas for development include research into creative knowledge, educational collaboration and dialogue on the place of creative practice in cultural policy.
